Yusuf Sevinçli

Used to the existential marginalism, seeing in contrast-full blacks, Yusuf Sevinçli is one of those alchemistical artists who wherever they go give themselves up to strange, transfigurative operations, shooting instinctively, without premeditating the shot, shifting the lines, and who are actors and witnesses at one and the same time, one foot inside the frame and the other out, swaying with the wind, stumbling around with the drunks, trembling with beauty queens. They are far more than photographers: their photographs give off sounds and smells as if their very presence in the world was creating a new synthesis. Seen from the gripping, nomadic gaze of Yusuf Sevinçli, Istanbul parts company with its history, its geography, to remain floating in the space-time of a waking dream, tossing and capsizing as lightning strikes and mists enfold it, a dream set with black coal and incandescent whites that make it brighter, more nervous and ever more elusive
