FOTOİSTANBUL

Istanbul's most comprehensive photography event, Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival, opens its doors for the third time on October 1st, 2016. Photography enthusiasts from around the world will have the opportunity to see the works of sixty artists from America, Asia, Europe and Turkey at the festival until October 30th 2016. MKM Center of Culture, Ortaköy Orphanage, Ortaköy Center of Culture and Çırağan Governorate will once again gather millions around the art of photography. This year’s surprise will take place at the open exhibition areas, presenting open-air exhibitions to viewers with a brand new concept.

With 60 exhibitions, 12 panels and round table discussions, 6 master-talks, more than 250 portfolio reviews, and book-signing sessions, Fotoistanbul will celebrate the art of photography in Beşiktaş with the people of Istanbul. This year, as a new addition to our festival, we will be featuring a series of open-air projection nights.

With the success it achieved in a short period, Fotoistanbul is steadily moving forward every year to its well-deserved place in the world of international photography, while constantly developing its partnerships with international institutions. Beginning in 2016, Fotoistanbul has been featuring a country and its photographers as a "Guest of Honor,”organizing special events distinctive to that country. This year's Guest of Honor will be Hungary, which brought up many great photographers, such as Andre Kertesz, Brassaï,  Robert Capa and LászlóMoholy-Nagy, leaving its mark in the history of world photography. In the framework of international partnerships, the winner of "Robert Capa International Grand Prize" will be exhibited at Fotoistanbul starting this year. Similar to last year, the winner of “The International Andrei Stenin Contest" will again be at Fotoistanbul. Distinguished selections from Arles Voies Off and Tbilisi Photography Festival will also be amongst the many exhibitions of Fotoistanbul 2016. Fotoistanbul takes its communication with the art world to a whole new level through its collaborations with Istanbul's esteemed photography galleries. The Empire Project, Gama, Art Galerim, Fotoğraf Evi, Mixer and IFG will be hosting Fotoistanbul’s various events and exhibitions.

Fotoistanbul 2016 will showcase the works of 35 foreign artists, including Sandro Miller, as one of the most important living photographers, and many other great photographers such as Ruud van Empel, Antonie D'agata, Christer Strömholm, Nick Brandt, Daesung Lee, Mandy Barker, Josef Hoflehner, Kai Wiedenhöfer, Henrik Spohler, James Mollison, Shadi Ghadirian, Tomasz Lazar, Marcus Lyon, Jean Fransuva Lepage, and Park Seung Hoon. Additionally, 20 renowned Turkish photographers, consisting of Yıldız Moran, Maryam Şahinyan, Gül Ilgaz, Sinan Tuncay, Ahmet Öner Gezgin, Ergun Turan, Nazif Topçuoğlu, Bennu Gerede, Barbaros Kayan, Aydın Büyüktaş, Tayfun Öztürk, Seckin Yilmaz, and H-art Kollektif will be at Fotoistanbul 2016.

Amongst this year's Fotoistanbul events, the Everyday Projects and the Instagram photography contest, sponsored by Canon, will hold a special place. Following a selection from thousands of participants around the world, chosen finalists will be awarded with various prizes from Canon. Furthermore, the photographs of the top fifty participants will be exhibited throughout festival.
